Korean Air unveiled on Tuesday (Wednesday AEDT) its next steps in an ambitious mission to become one of Asia’s largest airlines, following its US$1.3 billion (A$2.08 billion) takeover of rival Asiana in December 2024.
Walter Cho, Chairman and CEO of Korean Air, said the “unified Korean Air” means “our role as Korea’s flagship carrier has grown even more significant.”
New aircraft livery and corporate branding was unveiled last night at the airline’s headquarters hangar in Seoul.
Retaining its signature sky blue colour, the new livery is subtly darker with a slightly metallic effect “for a more refined and contemporary look.”
The airline’s name is now reduced from “Korean Air” to “Korean” in the new design.
Set to be “gradually introduced” the new corporate identity will be across aircraft liveries, inflight services, lounges and all key customer interaction points.
Also announced was the new private first class suites to debut in 2028, which will join the Prestige Suites 2.0 business class and all-new premium economy on the airline’s next deliveries of the Airbus A350, Boeing 777 and Boeing 787 aircraft.
The suites will be designed by PriestmanGoode with the approach of “blending traditional Korean design with modern sophistication.”
Before the new suites arrive, Korean Air will be upgrading their existing first class services.
“If we have a first class seat, then we’ll provide first class service,” David Pacey, Executive Vice President and Chief of In-flight Service and Lounges at Korean Air, told Executive Traveller.
This will include a new “fine-dining-inspired” in-flight experience developed by Chef Seakyeong Kim, owner of Cesta in Seoul.
The meal will be served on Bernardaud china with Christofle cutlery and Riedel glassware.
First-class bedding will also feature premium materials from luxury brand Frette, accompanied by an Air Coil mattress from Eco World.
Passengers will then be able to slip into Frette loungewear to enjoy a relaxing onboard experience.
The new offerings will debut on 12 March across 10 of Korean Air's major long-haul routes, including to New York, Paris and London.
By June, all long-range routes provided by the airline will feature the upgraded inflight experience.
