Israel has breached its newly agreed ceasefire with Lebanon, after reporting that Lebanese militant group Hezbollah broke it first.
The Israeli military has fired on several villages in southern Lebanon, in response to detecting “suspects” in the area which breached the recent ceasefire agreement.
Its airforce struck a facility it claimed was being used by Hezbollah to store missiles as well as opening fire on what it called "suspects" with vehicles arriving at several areas in the southern zone.
Hezbollah politician Hassan Fadlallah hit back, accusing Israel of being the ones to violate the deal and attacking people returning to their villages near the southern border.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu confirmed he had instructed the military not to allow these residents back.
The fragile and recent ceasefire was brokered by the U.S. and scheduled to take effect from 1 pm AEDT Wednesday, however it only lasted into its second day before the breach.
Israeli forces simultaneously increased attacks in Gaza, reportedly bombing displacement shelters in the south and residential homes in the north.
Netanyahu said he is ready for a ceasefire in Gaza for captives to be released, but emphasised that he intends to continue the war with Hamas.
