Iran’s President, Masoud Pezeshkian, has visited those affected by a massive explosion that killed at least 40 people and injured around 1,000 more.
The blast occurred on Sunday at the Shahid Rajee port outside Bandar Abbas in southern Iran’s Hormozgan province.
Pezeshkian said the blast's reasoning is still unknown and thanked first responders upon arrival.
“We have come to see first-hand if there is anything or any issue that the government can follow up on,” he said.
“We will try to take care of the families who lost their loved ones, and we will take care of the dear people who got injured.”
Russia’s embassy said Moscow was sending multiple aircraft carrying specialists to fight the blaze, with one aircraft being a dedicated firefighting plane.
The blaze has been declared under control by authorities.
