Tourism between China and India is set to get much easier, as the latter begins to offer tourism visas to China again.
For the first time in five years, Chinese citizens will be able to apply for tourism visas to India, with the pause coming as a result of a fatal battle over land borders.
The hand-to-hand fight in the Galwan Valley left at least 20 Indian and four Chinese soldiers dead, back in June of 2020.
Both nations maintain a heavy military presence along the hotly contested de facto border, known as the Line of Actual Control, and after the Galwan Valley battle, India stopped tourist visas for Chinese citizens.
But now, they are able to apply for the visas once again, according to an announcement from the Indian Embassy in Beijing.
The news marks an easing of tension between the two nations, and was welcomed by China’s foreign spokesperson, Guo Jiakun.
“China is willing to maintain communication and consultation with India to continuously improve the level of facilitation of personnel exchanges between the two countries," he said.
