A volcano in Iceland has erupted for the seventh time in the space of a year.
The eruption occurred late last Wednesday night, local time, at Sundhnúksgíga, along the Reykjanes Peninsula in south-western Iceland.
The country's meteorological office reported fountains of lava and smoke from a fissure around three kilometres long.
Authorities had already warned of volcanic activity in the area, where the most recent eruption ended only on September 6 of this year.
Kayleigh Patter, who was heading to Iceland for a holiday, spoke to Azzet about the experience of her plane flying over the eruption.

“The pilot did mention seeing something approaching soon but did not mention anything again until the cabin crew told everyone to stay in their seats as we were landing” Patter said.
“I was honestly in awe, I’ve never experienced anything like it and probably never will but I think many were worried.” She said, “I just thought, if we were in danger, they would’ve rerouted the plane.”
The volcanic eruption is continuing, with lava now reaching defence structures near Svartsengi Power Station and engulfing the carpark at the Blue Lagoon attraction.
According to the Icelandic Meteorological Office, the eruption remains stable, although as lava is advancing it has placed pressure on dikes and increased along the resort's defences.
