Hyundai Motor Company and Kia Corporation have launched their latest innovation at Wearable Robot Tech Day: the "X-ble Shoulder", a groundbreaking wearable robot designed to enhance industrial efficiency and reduce musculoskeletal injuries.
The device reportedly reduces shoulder load by 60% and muscle activity by 30% when used during overhead work.
The carmarkers said the X-ble Shoulder is "set to revolutionise" the industrial sector with its robust yet lightweight design, featuring carbon composite and wear-resistant materials for enhanced worker comfort.
With commercialisation plans in place, deliveries are expected to begin in the first half of 2025. These deliveries are initially targeting Hyundai and Kia's production and maintenance departments, before expanding to global markets.

Dong Jin Hyun, Vice President and Head of Robotics LAB at Hyundai Motor and Kia, emphasised the device's ability to work naturally with users: “Going forward, we aim to expand the availability of wearable robots, creating products that work naturally with users to enhance their daily lives. By pushing technological boundaries, we will make these beneficial products accessible to more people.”
The X-ble Shoulder is part of the broader X-ble brand, which symbolises infinite potential and innovative possibilities in wearable technology.
Notably, the X-ble Shoulder operates on a non-powered torque generation structure, eliminating separate charging and ensuring easy maintenance. This design significantly enhances worker safety and productivity by reducing physical strain and allowing extended use without discomfort.
Looking ahead, Hyundai Motor and Kia plan to expand their wearable robot portfolio with the development of the "X-ble Waist" for heavy lifting and "X-ble MEX" for medical rehabilitation. These innovations align with the growing demand for wearable robots across various industries, including construction, shipbuilding, aviation, agriculture, automobiles, and logistics.
