France is facing cabinet collapse as the prime minister is expected to lose a vote of no confidence.
The French PM, François Bayrou, has called for a confidence vote to take place on September 8, which he announced on Monday.
Bayrou, who says he is ready to “fight like a dog”, is pushing for the vote as he and his minority government campaign for National Assembly support for €43.8 billion in budget cuts, to reduce national deficit.
However, the opposing parties have all confirmed they will not back him, and this will likely see his leadership end after just nine months in office.
If Bayrou loses the vote, it will happen less than a year after the previous government of Michel Barnier collapsed, also over budget disagreements, after just three months in power.
"Yes, it's risky, but it's even riskier not to do anything," he said.
