Elon Musk’s father says his ultra-billionaire son is interested in purchasing one of the most famous and decorated clubs in world football - Liverpool Football Club.
Errol Musk, in an interview with Times Radio, acknowledged that Elon has an interest in the six-time European Cup champions.
“Oh yes, but that doesn't mean he's buying it,” Errol Musk said in the interview.
“He would like to, yes, obviously, anybody would want to. So would I.”
Errol Musk said the family have deep ties to Liverpool.
"His grandmother was born in Liverpool, and we have relatives in Liverpool, and we were fortunate to know quite a lot of the Beatles because they grew up with some of my family," he added.
"So, we are attached to Liverpool, you know."
Liverpool have already attracted interest from celebrities in the past, notably with LeBron James investing US$6.5 million into the club for a 2% stake back in 2011 - of which he subsequently converted into a 1% stake in Liverpool’s owners Fenway Sports Group.
That kicked off a domino effect for American A-listers to pour money into English football.
Notably Ryan Reynolds’ and Rob McElhenney’s purchase of struggling Welsh club Wrexham, NFL superstar Tom Brady’s minority stake in Birmingham City FC, Michael B. Jordan putting money into Bournemouth and J.J and Kealia Watts’ joint purchase of a slice of Burnley FC.
Liverpool are currently top of both the English Premier League and Champions League, with their star winger Mohamed Salah making a case for this year’s Ballon d’Or, leading in both goals and assists this season.
