A Cybertruck explosion outside the Trump Vegas hotel has left at least one dead and several injured.
Parked outside the Trump International Hotel in Las Vegas on New Year's Day, the Tesla Cybertruck - created by Donald Trump's appointed Department of Government Efficiency co-lead Elon Musk - was engulfed in flames following a “massive explosion”.
The incident was first reported around 8:40 am local time, with authorities saying the FBI was investigating the explosion as a possible terrorist act after a large amount of fireworks-style mortar was found inside the vehicle.
In a press conference after the incident, Las Vegas Sheriff Kevin McCahill confirmed the fatality, but said it was unclear if the victim was male or female.
McCahill also confirmed seven others had “minor” injuries and that the FBI would also be investigating.
Trump's son Eric, who works as the executive VP of the Trump Organization, issued a statement on X following the explosion that noted the “top priority” was the "safety and well-being" of guests and staff, as well as thanking the first responders for their "swift response and professionalism”.
Also on X, Elon Musk stated that Tesla would also be launching its own investigation, saying that "the whole Tesla senior team… we’ve never seen anything like this.”
