Negotiations between Israel and Hamas have been taking place in Doha, Qatar for a Gaza ceasefire deal.
Representatives from the United States and Qatari officials have described the discussions as reaching a "breakthrough" point, with a final draft of an agreement now under consideration.
However, despite hours of talks with senior members of Israel's security and intelligence establishment and Hamas' organisation present no outcome has been confirmed yet, with both sides saying key final details are still being ironed out.
A Hamas official said the group was waiting for Israel to submit maps showing how its forces would withdraw from Gaza and an Israeli official said it was “close, [but] we are not there yet”.
A key pillar of the deal is Israel demanding the return of 33 hostages held by Hamas in the first phase of a six-week ceasefire and hostage deal, saying they are then prepared to release hundreds of Palestinian prisoners in return.
Health authorities in Gaza say more than 46,000 Palestinians have been killed during the 15 month-long war, initially launched by Israel in response to Hamas' attacks on October 7, 2023, which totalled more than 1,110 fatalities.
Hundreds of thousands of Palestinians have been displaced as a result of the fighting, and huge areas of Gaza have been destroyed.
