The leader of the Greens, Adam Bandt, is in a down to the wire fight to retain his seat of Melbourne, one that he's held for the last 15 years.
His challenger is Labor's Sarah Witty, and at the time of reporting (8:45 am AEST) there was a 5% swing in her favour, while Greens were ahead in the votes themselves.
The electorate saw a boundary redraw since the last federal election which has likely led to the tight race, with more conservative areas such as Prahan and South Yarra in Melbourne's south were pulled into the fold and, the typically Greens voting areas to the north, including Clifton Hill, Brunswick East, Carlton North and Fitzroy North, being lost to the seats of Cooper and Wills respectively.
However, Bandt seemed to remain optimistic in a social media post made just before midnight last night, claiming the Greens would retain three of its seats.
So far Wills has not been decided, with Labor ahead by an incremental amount at the time of writing and Melbourne facing similarly close results.

Across the nation, more results have continued to trickle in overnight, and at the time of reporting 71% of votes had been counted and 18 seats were still in doubt.
Currently Labor holds 85, the Liberals 37, the Greens have yet to score or retain a single seat and are sat on 0 and Independents have won 10.
In the key seat of Kooyong, Independent Monique Ryan retained her seat as she beat the LNP's Amelia Hamer.
Another key seat for this election was Ryan, in Brisbane's west, which had been a Liberal safe seat until 2022, when the Greens managed to secure a win in the form of MP Elizabeth Watson-Brown.
She has run again this year, against the LNP's Maggie Forrest, and at the time of reporting had a little over 57% of the seat's vote.
