Asia-Pacific shares rallied at Thursday's open following a mixed performance on Wall Street, where the Dow Jones Industrial Average snapped a four-day winning streak.
By 10:40 am AEST (12:40 am GMT) the ASX 200, Kospi 200 and Nikkei 225 added 0.6%, 1.8% and 1.7%, respectively.
In the US, stocks eased from record highs overnight, as the Dow Jones fell 0.7%, the S&P 500 slipped 0.2%, while the Nasdaq inched up by less than 0.1%.
Top gainers in the S&P 500 included Vistra Corp, up 5.94%, Hewlett Packard Enterprise, rising 5.14%, and Constellation Energy Corp, which gained 3.70%. Among the biggest decliners were Global Payments Inc, down 6.50%, Amgen Inc, which fell 5.46%, and General Motors, losing 4.87%.
In commodities, Brent crude oil dropped 2.0% to $73.67 per barrel, and gold remained steady at $2,657.73.
Chinese shares closed higher, with the Shanghai Composite Index gaining 1.2% to 2,896.31 and the Shenzhen Composite Index rising 1.2% to 1,575.28. In Hong Kong, the Hang Seng Index also added 0.7% to close at 19,129.10.
Japan's Nikkei Stock Average slipped 0.2%, closing at 37,870.26, while India's BSE SENSEX increased by 0.3% to close at 85,169.87.
European shares ended lower. The UK's FTSE 100 Index fell 0.2% to 8,268.70, while Germany's DAX slipped 0.4% to 18,918.50, and France's CAC 40 lost 0.5% to 7,565.62.
US stocks ended mixed, with the Dow Jones Industrial Average dropping 0.7% to 41,914.75. The S&P 500 dipped 0.2% to 5,722.26, while the Nasdaq remained flat at 18,082.21.
