Apple reportedly plans a slate of new products in 2025, including a smart home device and an iPhone Air.
The company is also set to release new versions of the MacBook Air, iPad, and Apple Watch this year, according to Bloomberg.
Apple began the certification process to ensure its devices would work with universal smart home connectivity standard Matter last week. According to the Connectivity Standards Alliance, Matter’s developer, “the Alliance is excited to share that Apple has begun accepting Alliance Interop [Interoperability] Lab test results for Matter devices for Works With Apple Home.”
Its smart home device will reportedly include a six-inch screen, as well as a camera, a rechargeable battery, and built-in speakers. The device will act as a hub for home appliances, and can run apps and operate video calls.
The smart home hub was initially planned for a March release, according to Bloomberg, but may instead launch after the iOS 19 iPhone operating system rolls out later this year.
Apple also aims to release an iPhone 17 Air alongside its new iPhone 17 this year, which would be around two millimetres thinner than the standard model. The iPhone Air’s slimming technology reportedly could lead to a future foldable iPhone; while competitors like Samsung have offered foldable phones since 2019, Apple has not yet said when it might launch a similar device.
New editions of the 13-inch and 15-inch MacBook Air are reportedly set to roll out this year, which will include Apple’s M4 chip.
Upgraded versions of the iPad Air and an entry-level iPad are both planned, according to Bloomberg, and will contain Apple Intelligence, Apple’s new AI feature.
Several new Apple Watch models are reportedly planned for the second half of 2025, with the Ultra 3 model featuring satellite connectivity. Apple acquired a 20% stake in its satellite connectivity partner Globalstar in November, including a prepayment of US$1.1 billion to renew its satellite infrastructure.
Apple’s (NASDAQ: AAPL) share price closed at US$236.85, up from a previous close at $242.70. Its market capitalisation is $3.58 trillion.
