APAC markets started strong on Tuesday as investors tuned into the inauguration of Donald Trump, awaiting policy updates in the coming days.
By 11:31 am AEDT (12:31 pm GMT) the Australian ASX 200 gained 1% while the South Korean Kospi 200 gained 0.8% and Japan’s Nikkei 225 added 0.4%.
U.S. markets were closed on Monday due to the Martin Luther King Jr. public holiday.
On Friday, the Dow Jones Industrial Average lifted 0.8% while the S&P 500 added 1% followed by the Nasdaq Composite gaining 1.5%.
Among commodities, spot gold was up 0.2% to US$2,707.90 per ounce while Brent crude oil was down 1.2% to US$79.80 per barrel.
In Hong Kong, the Hang seng Index gained 0.3% to 19584.1 and China’s SSE Index was up 0.08% to 3244.41.
While India’s BSE Sensex eased 0.6% to 77073.44.
In Europe, markets finished higher on Monday with FTSE 100 lifting 0.2% while DAX and CAC 40 gained 0.3% and 0.4% respectively
