United States Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is gaining popularity among Democrats according to a recent CNN poll.
The poll asked which leader best reflected the party's core values and was conducted by SSRS research for the news organisation, between March 6th and 9th.
Cortez, commonly known by the nickname AOC, has been serving as a representative for New York in the 14th district since 2019, and is consistently hailed as a younger and more progressive voice for the Democrats.
Alex Isenstadt, a reporter for Inside Politics Sunday, aired on the organisation, said the AOC's traction was not a surprise and that her political growth was reminiscent of Barack Obama's first election in 2008.
“Well, if that’s what the party wants, then potentially … “You know, her rise kind of reminds me of what happened to Republicans after Obama’s election in 2008 where it was the loudest voices of the Republican Party, the Tea Party, that really gained traction at a time when the Republican Party was lost”, said Isenstadt.
“And maybe Democrats now find themselves in a similar situation and AOC, maybe she best represents Democratic voters on it,” Isenstadt added.
