Qatari broadcaster Al Jazeera has had its operations in the West Bank suspended by the Palestinian Authority.
The PA accused Al Jazeera of incitement and interference, but Al Jazeera rebuked the claims and accused it of mirroring Israeli media censorship policies.
According to the official Palestinian news agency WAFA, Al Jazeera has been suspended for biased reporting and "broadcasting inciteful content, spreading misinformation, and interfering in internal Palestinian affairs", with the suspension including work by all of Al Jazeera's "journalists, staff and associated channels affiliated" with the network.
This decision comes in the middle of increased violence in the West Bank, and threatens to increase tensions with Qatar, where the network is owned and based.
In its own statement, Al Jazeera criticised the suspension and compared it directly to it to the actions of Israeli media censorship.
“This decision comes following the ongoing campaign of incitement and intimidation by parties associated with the Palestinian Authority against Al Jazeera's journalists and correspondents.”
