Aeromexico has claimed the title of Cirium’s most “on time Global Airline” in 2024, achieving an impressive punctuality performance rate of 86.7% with one of the youngest fleets in the sector.
The Central American carrier’s standout performance was put down to strategic investments in fleet modernisation, tech advancements and integral partnerships with airports.
“Over the past year, the airline has expanded its fleet to 113 aircraft, with 16 more on order - one of the youngest and most fuel-efficient in the industry - with an average age of just 7.1 years," Cirium chief marketing officer Mike Malik said.
“Key acquisitions, including the Boeing 737 MAX 8 and 9 and 787 Dreamliner’s, have bolstered operational capacity while maintaining high standards for performance and environmental sustainability.”
Cirium’s airline on-time performance is defined as an aircraft’s arrival at the gate within 15 minutes of the scheduled arrival time, while Airport on-time performance is measured by on-time departing flights.
Saudia was runner-up with 86.35%, while US-based Delta Air Lines secured third place with 83.46%, continuing to showcase its operational reliability on the world stage.
Other regional winners include: Copa Airlines (Latin America), Delta Air Lines (North America), Iberia Express (Europe, and Low-Cost Airline) and FlySafair (Middle East and Africa).
Japan leads APAC as Qantas lags
In Asia Pacific, Japan Airlines took the on-time top spot with 80.9%, with compatriot All Nippon Airways hot on its heels with 80.62%.
Interestingly, the Flying Kangaroo, Qantas, lagged at the bottom of the top 10 for Asia Pacific airlines, with just a 73.93% on time arrival score.
That’s one in four flights arriving late - yet still above Jetstar (73.39%) and Virgin Australia’s (72.7%) performance rates.
The news is reigniting calls to include a cash compensation scheme that was notably missing from its recently proposed aviation changes.
