The ACCC has released its first set of quarterly data on the NBN, mandated by a new Record Keeping Rule that came into effect from July last year.
The new datasets will cover the NBN’s connection times, fault rectification, appointment keeping, and the extent of planned and emergency network outages, to try and gain an understanding of the quality of the network.
This first set looked at the quarter ending September 2024 and the next will cover the quarter ending December 2024 to be published later this month.
The ACCC reported that service orders were completed and service faults restored within one business day of the request being accepted, driven by increased automation of services at NBN Co.
Most of the reported outages were for planned maintenance or upgrade work, rather than for emergency outages and outages caused by third parties, such as an electricity outage, weren't included in this data set.
A relatively small number of locations were found to be connected to copper lines needing out-of-the-ordinary network improvement work to reach minimum standards and NBN currently allows up to 18 months to fix these problem lines.
“By sharing these insights regularly, we aim to keep the public informed about the service quality they can expect when using the NBN,” ACCC Commissioner Anna Brakey said.
