A magnitude 7.0 earthquake has hit the California coastline, stretching from southern Oregon down to San Francisco, causing a now lifted tsunami warning.
The earthquake hit on Thursday at 10:44 am local time, with the subsequent tsunami warning impacting nearly five million people.
It occurred near the northern coast of California, just offshore on the San Andreas fault, which runs along the coast line.
The epicentre of the quake struck in Ferndale, a small city near the Oregon border, and was at a depth of 10 kilometres, according to the United States Geological Survey.
The tsunami warning was issued shortly after and covered over 800 kilometres of coastline, and multiple cities put precautionary evacuation measures in place while damage was assessed.
The earthquake's magnitude was reported 7.0, following a revision for the original 6.6.
