Purpose

Australian Naval Infrastructure is seeking to appoint an Executive General Manager, Commercial to support the delivery of ANI’s nuclear-powered submarine construction yard (NPSCY). The EGM, Commercial will collaborate with the CEO and NPSCY Program Director to structure and lead major transactions, including the appointment of a Capability Partner to supplement the skills and resources of the NPSCY Integrated Delivery Office (IDO) and the construction partners who will deliver the facilities.

The scope of the role includes providing commercial expertise and leadership for the delivery of this multi-billion dollar project and working with ANI’s capability partner to segment and prepare construction packages for the market. The EGM, Commercial will be responsible for establishing and implementing a wide range of significant contracts critical to the success of the program.

The EGM, Commercial will not only be responsible for establishing the project’s foundational structures but will also play a critical role in managing relationships with the Board and key stakeholders. Importantly the EGM, Commercial appointment will add to the Chief Executive Officer succession bench strength within ANI, underscoring the strategic importance and leadership expectations of the role.

As a key member of ANI’s Executive Leadership Team, the EGM, Commercial will hold responsibility for developing, negotiating and implementing commercial strategies for ANI’s existing operations at the Osborne Naval Shipyard together with the NPSCY project.

The Candidate

The ideal candidate brings extensive senior leadership experience within infrastructure, contracting, or construction sectors, with a proven track record in managing end-to-end commercial and procurement functions for complex mega projects. They have successfully led high-value contract negotiations and demonstrate a strong grasp of legal frameworks and risk allocation principles.

This ideal candidate excels in complex, regulated settings, consistently driving alignment with strategic objectives through accountability and collaboration. The EGM, Commercial will possess high emotional intelligence and superior interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence outcomes across diverse internal and external stakeholder groups, including government. They are commercially astute, strategically minded, and adept at building strong relationships to deliver impactful results.

Importantly, the EGM, Commercial will be collaborative in nature, with a relationship focus and strong understanding of risk-based decision making. This person will bring a strong attention to detail, with the tolerance and agility to work in an ambiguous and evolving environment.

With a Bachelor’s degree in Commerce, Law, Project Management, Engineering, or related discipline - and potentially an MBA - this person will need eligibility for an NV1 security clearance.
