Assisted Living Alberta
Assisted Living Alberta (ALA) is the new provincial continuing care agency which aims to transform the continuing care system to address current system challenges and support Albertans to live and age well in their homes, communities and the settings that best meet their needs. ALA will work to ensure the provision of timely and convenient access to state-of-the-art health, social and wraparound services across ones journey, and to alleviate system capacity and support aging in place. ALAs strategic priorities include the following:
- Build partners in prevention
- Lead in integrated and seamless care
- Support a sustainable system
- Promote timely and convenient access
- Enhance care excellence
By moving the Continuing Care division to SCSS from the Ministry of Health, the government is taking advantage of an existing system designed to deliver social services for all Albertans. These changes are designed to provide consistent access to assisted living, enhance patient care, and ultimately support better outcomes for all Albertans.
ALA will provide provincial oversight and coordination of service delivery across the spectrum of assisted living services, including continuing care homes, and home and community care. ALA will focus on achieving consistent and timely access to assisted living supports and services through a single, coordinated intake approach, increasing the number and geographic distribution of spaces to meet the needs of Albertans.
ALA supports the health and independence of Albertans living in their own homes, in supportive living accommodations, or assisted living homes. Assisted living in Alberta encompasses a diverse range of settings, services, and supports tailored to meet the unique health, personal care, and accommodation needs of individuals.
Opportunity as Chief Executive Officer
As the first Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of this newly created Assisted Living Alberta, this executive plays a critical role in transforming Alberta continuing care, home care, and community care systems and providing wraparound supports to ensure all Albertans can access the care they need, when and where they need it, regardless of age, diagnosis, or duration of need. This position offers a unique opportunity to lead transformative change and drive innovation in the provision of assisted living services, ensuring that all Albertans have access to high-quality care that meets their evolving needs. No one will be left behind; ALA will coordinate with providers to support the diverse needs of all Albertans, and ensure that seniors, Albertans with disabilities, individuals facing addiction, mental health and homelessness can achieve their highest possible level of independence and wellbeing. With the demand for assisted living services expected to rise by 80% over the next decade, this transformation aims to provide Albertans with better access to the full range of supports they need to maintain their quality of life and independence. This approach aims to provide individuals and families with more options when they need care and as their needs evolve.
The CEO will lead efforts to enhance the provision of care that encompasses all assisted living services across the entire province. They will have the opportunity to influence policy development, service delivery models, and resource allocation strategies to create a better integrated and individualized approach to the delivery of assisted living care.
This role requires a visionary leader who can navigate complex care landscapes, anticipate emerging trends and challenges, and develop strategic partnerships to address the ever-changing needs of Alberta's aging population and individuals with complex care needs.
