OpenAI has scored a multimillion-dollar contract with the United States defence forces.
The Department of Defence confirmed the deal in a statement, which will see the tech company join forces with the Department under a year-long, US$200 million contract.
It will see this work mostly in the National Capital Region, covering Washington D.C. and parts of Maryland and Virginia.
"Under this award, the performer will develop prototype frontier AI capabilities to address critical national security challenges in both [the] warfighting and enterprise domains", the statement said.
It is not the first foray OpenAI has had into the White House, with CEO Sam Altman joining President Donald Trump back in January to confirm it would throw its weight behind the US$500 billion Stargate project for AI infrastructure development in the United States.
