Catholic International University has launched a new artificial intelligence (AI) and emerging technology program.
The course is titled “Master of Science in Prudential Design of Emerging Technologies” and, according to the university, aims to integrate ethical and Christian and anthropological studies into AI.
"At Catholic International University, we are committed to advancing technology in a way that prioritizes the dignity and well-being of every person," said Dr. Michael Pencina, Board of Trustee Member at Catholic International University and Chief Data Scientist and Director at Duke AI Health in a statement.
"Our Master of Science in Prudential Design of Emerging Technologies exemplifies our mission to ensure that new technologies, including artificial intelligence, serve the common good.
“We are shaping a future where technology advances and uplifts humanity by equipping graduates with the tools to integrate human-centred principles into applications of artificial intelligence."
The course takes inspiration from commentary within the catholic church, including the Vatican's recent Antiqua et Nova note, which reflects upon the relationship between the catholic church and emerging technologies.
The course is centred on the human person and aligned with the common good with four main pillars of human dignity; transparency and accountability; stewardship and creation and the common good.
The course aims to lead students to various applications of AI across all sectors including finance, healthcare and technology.
