Australia's engineering construction sector saw moderate growth in the June quarter, with the seasonally adjusted value of work done rising 1.2% to AU$31.38 billion compared to the previous quarter, according to data released by the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) on Wednesday.
The growth was driven by both private and public sector projects, though the public sector led the increase.
The private sector saw a slight 0.4% increase in engineering work, reaching AU$16.84 billion. In contrast, public sector engineering construction expanded more robustly, growing 2.2% to AU$14.54 billion.
Compared to the same period in 2023, the total value of engineering construction rose by 5.7% in the June quarter.
Notably, the value of new work commenced surged by 10% in original terms to AU$27.94 billion, signaling a strong pipeline of future projects.
