A new survey has found flight disruptions and extreme weather events are the top top travel risks concerning Australians this year.
The research results come from insurance provider Insure&Go, with 63% of respondents believing there will be more travel risks this year than the last.
Of the types of risks, flight cancellations and delays topped the responses, with 76% of those surveyed saying this would be expected and 63% expect international flight disruptions and cancellations.
Over half responded that extreme weather events could impact travel plans.
However, just 38% believed that war and geopolitical events would pose a risk to international travel.
Commercial and marketing director for Insure&Go, David Mayo, says these results are a reminder to check what is happening in the destination country or city, read exclusions in their travel insurance policy and to check the Federal Government’s Smart Traveller website for "warnings and essential information about specific destinations.”
“Travel takes people out of their comfort zones, heightening their awareness and sense of risk, and that will look different for everyone," Mayo said.
“While flight cancellations and delays have a smaller impact than war, political unrest and extreme weather events, they can still have significant impact on travel itineraries, causing further missed flights, tours and hotel check-ins."
