New Zealand is set to ease visa restrictions for visitors, allowing them to work remotely when they visit.
Tourism is the second largest export generating revenue earner for New Zealand, and the new rules aim to make a trip “more attractive" to remote workers and boost the country's "attractiveness as a destination”.
As remote and flexible working becomes increasingly popular so have “digital nomad” visas.
“Many countries offer digital nomad visas and the list is growing, so we need to keep pace to ensure New Zealand is an attractive destination for people who want to ‘workcation’ abroad," said Tourism Minister Louise Upston.
The new change will apply to all New Zealand visitor visas, and only remote work based overseas is permitted.
Tourists whose work requires them to be in New Zealand, representatives of overseas companies, performers or those coming to work for New Zealand employers must still obtain other visas.
