Container giant, Tupperware, is starting a new chapter and leaving Australia behind.
Tupperware’s change in Australian operations was confirmed on 2 December on the 2GB Sydney’s Ben Fordham Live.
On the breakfast show, Fordham spoke to Australian Tupperware consultant Maria who said the new owners of Tupperware, Party Products, have decided to focus on other markets.
“We’ve been told the new owners that have purchased Tupperware global are not proceeding with Tupperware in Australia, they are only keeping eight countries out of 70,” she said.
“We don’t know a final date in Australia as yet, we’ve been told we’ll be paid all the commission and what we’re owed but that’s all we know this far.”
Maria has been at Tupperware for 15 years and said the change has been coming for a long time.
“Some of these women have made it their career and they're the ones I feel sorry for but the writing has been on the wall.”
According to Ben Fordham Live, this will leave over 10,000 sales consultants and over 300 warehouse workers out of a job once Tupperware ceases operations in Australia.
In a media release on 22 October, Tupperware announced it was changing operation models and would be focusing on its global core markets including the U.S., Canada, Mexico, Brazil, China, Korea, India and Malaysia.
This comes months after the company filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy.
