The Israeli military is reporting that they have destroyed Syria's navy as they continue to carry out hundreds of airstrikes across the country.
The latest update from the Israeli military says it has carried out more than 350 airstrikes on Syria in just 48 hours.
Israel's Defence Minister Israel Katz said he had ordered a "sterile defensive zone" to be created in southern Syria to protect Israel from terrorism.
The subsequent airstrikes targeted weapons stockpiles and strategic infrastructure, including anti-aircraft batteries, Syrian Air Force airfields, and “dozens of weapons production sites” across Damascus, Homs, Tartus, Latakia, and Palmyra.
“We have no intention of interfering in Syria's internal affairs, but we clearly intend to do what is necessary to ensure our security,” Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said.
“I authorised the air force to bomb strategic military capabilities left by the Syrian army, so that they would not fall into the hands of the jihadists.”
This decision has already received criticism from neighbouring countries and the United Nations, with Geir O. Pedersen, the UN special envoy for Syria saying “this needs to stop", and that Israel's continued movements could place risk on the “transformation” of post-Assad Syria.
