With the Lunar New Year about to start, China is expected to see a record number of people returning to celebrate.
This annual migration for the Chinese New Year, the Year of the Snake which begins on Wednesday, sees a huge influx of travellers heading home for the celebrations via domestic and international travel.
For the traditional 40-day period that runs before, during and after the holiday, approximately nine billion interprovincial passenger trips are expected to be made across all forms of transport, according to the official Xinhua news agency.
In a further breakdown of those numbers, 510 million train trips and 90 million air trips are expected during this period, according to the Chinese Ministry of Transport.
