Aircraft manufacturer Boeing is resuming production of its 737 Max jet, following an eight-week strike.
Assembly of 767s and 777s is also set to resume shortly.
The machinists had already returned to work in November, but Boeing says it held off on production resuming as it took time to prepare its operation, employees and suppliers for a restart.
“We have worked methodically the restart factory operations in the Puget Sound region after the strike,” Boeing said “We have resumed 737 production in Renton.”
The backlog of planes now sits at more than 5,400, and it said it would be several more weeks before production ramps back up completely.
In the wake of the announcement that production would be resuming, Boeing shares gained 5.8% in the morning session of December 11 local time and closed the day at $164.19, up 4.5% from previous close.
